Busskirch

Busskirch is a village within Rapperswil-Jona on the northern shore of the Obersee in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland. From the 1st century AD it served as a Roman lakeside settlement and stage town at the crossroads of routes to Kempraten, Zurich, Winterthur, and Chur. The early medieval church of St. Martin, one of the oldest around Lake Zurich, rests directly on the remains of a Roman building dating from the 1st to 4th century AD. From the 8th century the village belonged to the Pfafers Abbey, and Rapperswil's citizens attended services here until 1253.
