Lousonna

Lousonna was a Gallo-Roman vicus on the shores of Lake Geneva, preceding modern Lausanne. The port town of around 2,000 inhabitants served as a commercial hub with trade links to Geneva, Nyon, and Villeneuve. Key structures included a forum, a temple complex stretching 71 metres, and harbour walls. From the 4th century onward, the population gradually moved uphill, and the Roman port was eventually abandoned. Today the archaeological park at Vidy preserves these remains beside the Musee Romain.
