Horgen is a municipality in the district of Horgen in the canton of Zürich, Switzerland, situated on the south bank of the Lake of Zürich[1]. It is the type-site for Switzerland's middle Neolithic archaeological culture, known as the Horgen culture[1]. The settlement produced crude pottery with close parallels to the Seine-Oise-Marne culture of northern France[1]. Horgen was one of the larger settlements along the lake during this period[1]. The municipality was first mentioned in 952 AD as Horga[1].
