Sant Martí d'Empúries is an ancient settlement in Catalonia, Spain, located in the town of L'Escala beside the ruins of Empúries (Empòrion). Ancient Greeks established the settlement in the 6th century BC. It served as the county seat of Empúries until 1079, when the capital moved to Castelló d'Empúries due to its better defensive position against attacks [1].
