Ruins of Talamanca

Archaeological remains in Talamanca de Jarama, a fortified settlement northeast of Madrid designated a Bien de Interes Cultural. Founded by Emir Muhammad I before 860 AD as a military stronghold to control the Port of Somosierra. Excavations uncovered over 100 metres of medieval wall with seven towers, Islamic pottery kilns, and reused Visigothic frieze fragments. The site spans multiple historical layers from Roman through Visigothic, Islamic emirate and caliphate, to Christian periods following Alfonso VI's conquest between 1079-1085.
