Toledo, Spain

Toledo is a UNESCO World Heritage city (1986) situated on the Tagus River in central Spain, with over 2,000 years of continuous habitation. Conquered by Rome in 193 BCE, it became the capital of Carpentia. It served as the Visigothic royal capital from the 6th century, hosting the landmark Third Council of Toledo (589 CE). Under Moorish rule (712-1085) it sustained a thriving Mozarab community. Known as the 'City of Three Cultures' for its Christian, Muslim, and Jewish heritage, it preserves monuments including its Gothic cathedral (begun 1226) and the Alcazar.
