Roman Vaults of Nuncio Viejo

Located beneath Calle Nuncio Viejo in the historic centre of Toledo, these Roman vaults consist of a system of walls and barrel vaults dating to the Roman era according to archaeological studies. They sit near two of the city's most important Roman remains: the Roman baths and cisterns of the water distribution network. Restored and enhanced by the Toledo Consortium by April 2008, they are now accessible to visitors through the "Unknown Heritage" (Patrimonio Desconocido) guided routes programme. The vaults demonstrate the sophistication of Roman hydraulic engineering within Toletum, which during the Imperial era featured large public works including bath buildings and two aqueducts.
