Honcopampa

Honcopampa is a Middle Horizon (AD 550-1000) archaeological site at 3,475m elevation on the western flank of Peru's Cordillera Blanca. The ruins feature impressive multistoried chullpas, rectangular patio groups with elongated halls, and rare D-shaped structures, blending imported Wari architectural forms with local northern highland masonry traditions. Interpreted as a provincial administrative center, the site likely mediated power between southern Wari rulers and native northern highland peoples in the Callejon de Huaylas. Finds include grinding stones indicating food preparation in residential compounds.
