Sechin Alto

Sechin Alto is a massive ceremonial complex in the Casma Valley of Peru, built around 1800-1400 BC during the Formative Period. Its main pyramid measures 300 by 250 metres and rises 35 metres high, clad in granite blocks weighing up to two tonnes, making it the largest pre-Columbian monument in Peru. The complex spans over 100 hectares and includes large rectangular plazas and smaller mounds serving ceremonial and administrative functions. It forms part of a four-site complex with Taukachi-Konkan, Cerro Sechin, and Sechin Bajo along the Sechin River, first documented by archaeologist Julio C. Tello in 1937.
