Barikot

Barikot is a town in the middle course of the Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, situated about 20 km from Mingora and the Butkara Stupa.[1] The site contains an ancient citadel reportedly captured by Alexander the Great, with Chalcolithic remains dating to c. 1700 BC and an early-historic settlement from c. 600 BC.[1] Since 1984, the Italian Archaeological Mission, founded by Giuseppe Tucci, has been excavating the ruins of the ancient town of Bazira beneath modern Barikot.[1]
