Attock Fort

Mughal fortress built in 1581-1583 on the orders of Emperor Akbar, under the supervision of Khwaja Shamsuddin Khwafi, to guard the strategic Indus River crossing against Afghan incursions. The fort has a 1,600-metre perimeter wall with 8 bastions and 6 gates, including the Delhi, Lahori, and Kabuli gates. Divided into an upper garrison section and lower civilian area, it features a Turkish-style hammam and mosque. Contested by the Maratha Empire (1758) and Sikhs during the Afghan-Sikh Wars.
