One of the largest Buddhist establishments in the Taxila archaeological complex, Pakistan, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located about 2 km from the Dharmarajika stupa, the site features the largest vihara monastery in northern India. An inscription in a chaitya hall records relics gifted to the Sarvastivadin school, dated to 77 AD. The monastery's architectural layout, with an image shrine opposite the entrance, became the prototype for later monasteries at Ajanta, Nalanda, and other major Buddhist sites.
