Idomenae

An ancient Macedonian town now identified with the archaeological site of Isar near the village of Marvinci in the Valandovo municipality of North Macedonia. Inhabited from the 7th century BC to the 6th century AD, it was one of the oldest ancient Macedonian sites in the region, alongside Vardarski Rid. Sitalces, king of Thrace, descended upon the Axius River at Idomenae and destroyed the town in 429 BC during his invasion of Macedonia. Before becoming part of the province of Emathia, the city served as the administrative center of the Parorbelia region.
