Ancient Theatre of Ohrid

Built in 200 BC, the Ancient Theatre of Ohrid is the only Hellenistic-type theatre surviving in North Macedonia [1]. Carved into the hillside overlooking Lake Ohrid, it dates to the late 3rd or early 2nd century BC during the late Hellenistic period [1]. The theatre's unique setting between two hills protects it from winds, preserving its natural acoustics for performances [1]. Only the lower section remains, and the original seating capacity is unknown [1]. It differs from North Macedonia's other ancient theatres in Scupi, Stobi and Heraklea Lynkestis, which were built during Roman times [1].
