Cerje, Skopje

Cerje is a Neolithic archaeological site located near the village of Govrlevo, south of Skopje, North Macedonia. Excavations uncovered houses from the Early and Middle Neolithic periods, built with sophisticated architectural techniques typical of the Balkan Neolithic. The site's most renowned find is the "Adam of Macedonia," a ceramic male torso in a seated position dating to approximately 6,000 years ago, excavated by archaeologist Milos Bilbija. This figurine, noted for its accentuated anatomy and realistic art form, is considered one of the earliest prehistoric male figurines and was designated a "millennial find". It is now displayed in the permanent archaeological exhibition at the Museum of the City of Skopje.
