Classic Maya city in the hills of northern Campeche, occupied from c. 300 BC but flourishing between 600 and 1000 AD. Its buildings display all three phases of Puuc architecture: Early, Colonnette, and Mosaic. The site preserves over 250 hieroglyphic inscriptions dating from 728 to 771 AD, naming fourteen individuals including secondary rulers (sahal) and scribes (ah tz'ib). Key structures include the Palace of the Colonnettes and the House of the Great Lintel.
