Posillipo

Posillipo is a district of Naples home to the Parco Archeologico di Pausilypon, centred on a 1st-century BC villa built by Publius Vedius Pollio spanning approximately 22 acres. The complex includes a 2,000-seat theatre, an Odeon, a nymphaeum ("Palace of the Spirits"), and marine fish ponds now submerged in the Gaiola underwater park. Upon Pollio's death in 15 BC, the villa was bequeathed to Augustus. Access is through the Grotta di Seiano, a 770-metre Roman tunnel with 120 arches, which also served as a WWII air-raid shelter.
