Oplontis

Oplontis is an ancient Roman archaeological site in Torre Annunziata, south of Naples, buried by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD [1]. The site comprises two villas: Villa A (Villa Poppaea), a luxurious residential complex from the mid-1st century BC possibly owned by Nero's wife Poppaea Sabina, and Villa B, a commercial center for wine and oil production [1] [2] [3]. Villa A features exceptional frescoes and a massive 60x17m swimming pool [4] [5] [6]. Oplontis is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site alongside Pompeii and Herculaneum [6].
