The Macellum of Pompeii was a provision market (macellum) situated on the Forum, serving as one of the focal points of the ancient city[1]. The building was constructed in several phases, beginning in the 3rd century BC[1]. When the earthquake of 62 AD destroyed large parts of Pompeii, the Macellum was also damaged[1]. Archaeological excavations have revealed that the building had still not been fully repaired by the time of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD[1].
