House of the Small Fountain, Pompeii

The House of the Small Fountain (also called House of the Second Fountain or House of the Landscapes) is a Roman residence in Pompeii, Italy, preserved by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE [1]. Located on Via di Mercurio in the northwest of the city, it features a mosaic fountain adorned with shells at the rear of its peristyle, for which it is named [1]. The house was originally two Samnite period structures merged during the Roman period to create a double atrium house [1]. It stands adjacent to the House of the Large Fountain, which has a larger shell-adorned mosaic fountain and marble theatrical mask sculptures, with the size difference between the two fountains used to distinguish the structures [1].
