Olynthus was an ancient Greek city in Chalcidice, Greece, situated on two flat-topped hills rising 30-40 metres above a fertile plain at the head of the Gulf of Torone, near the neck of the peninsula of Pallene[1]. The city stood about 2.5 km from the sea and approximately 60 stadia from Poteidaea[1]. Olynthus flourished between 432 BC and its destruction by Philip II of Macedon in 348 BC, and was finally abandoned in 316 BC[1].
