Cauria

Megalithic archaeological site on the plateau of Cauria near Sartene in southern Corsica, covering 60 hectares with three major monument groups dating from the 5th millennium BC onward. The Stantari alignment features two rows of menhirs aligned north-south, including statue-menhirs bearing sculpted faces and diagonal sword carvings. The Renaghju alignment contains 46 standing stones erected between c. 4500-1000 BC. The Dolmen de Funtanaccia, known as the Devil's Forge, is the best-preserved dolmen in Corsica, built from six massive granite blocks supporting a great stone roof, dating to the late Neolithic. Corsica contains over 900 menhirs, with the highest concentration in this southern region.
