Casteddu di Puzzonu

Casteddu di Puzzonu (Punta di Casteddu) is a protohistoric archaeological site in the commune of Sartene, southwestern Corsica, occupying a steep granite summit at 228m elevation overlooking the lower Ortolu valley. The site was occupied from the middle of the Late Bronze Age through the middle of the Early Iron Age (c. 1200-550 BC). Excavations revealed domestic structures with stone foundations, multiple rock shelters, and approximately 800 pottery sherds including burnished globular and biconical vessels. Isolated rock cavities are interpreted as funerary spaces, suggesting cremation practices possibly introduced from north-western Italy during the Late Bronze Age.
