Caixa de Rotllan

The Caixa de Rotllan ("Roland's Tomb" in Catalan) is a Neolithic dolmen near Arles-sur-Tech in the Pyrenees-Orientales of southern France, dating to the second half of the 3rd millennium BC. The monument consists of three upright stones in an H-shape supporting a thick roofing slab, enclosing a rectangular burial chamber oriented southeast, typical of simple-plan dolmens in the region. Listed as a Monument historique since 1889, it has never been archaeologically excavated. Local legend associates the tomb with Roland, claiming his horse carried his body here after the Battle of Roncevaux Pass, though the dolmen predates the legend by millennia.
