Marsoulas Cave

Marsoulas Cave is a Magdalenian-era decorated cave in Haute-Garonne, French Pyrenees, featuring a straight gallery about 100 metres long. Over 500 motifs have been documented, including bison, horses, anthropomorphic engravings, and geometric signs rendered in red ochre and black pigment. The main occupation dates to around 15,000 BC, with the Great Panel dated to approximately 13,000 BC. A large conch shell (31 x 18 cm) recovered in 1931 was identified in 2021 as a musical instrument adapted by Magdalenian people. The cave is now closed to the public due to damage from excavations and visitors.
