Aléria

Aléria is an ancient settlement on Corsica's eastern coast, founded by Phocaean Greeks around 566 BC according to Herodotus [1]. The site became a major Etruscan trading post and later a Roman colony, with archaeological excavations revealing significant Etruscan material culture, including a recently discovered hypogeum (underground tomb) containing rich funerary offerings that highlight connections between Etruscan Corsica and mainland Italian culture [2][3]. Today, Aléria marks the easternmost point in metropolitan France and contains remains of its later Roman and medieval phases [1].
