EnglandA Neolithic portal dolmen near St Keverne on the Lizard peninsula in Cornwall, dating to approximately 3500-2600 BC. Two parallel orthostats support a large capstone enclosing a chamber measuring about 4 by 2 metres. The capstone bears cupmarks that may represent early prehistoric rock art. Excavated by Borlase in 1872, who discovered a pit about 1 metre deep and a single flint flake. Local legend connects the three stones to a quarrel between St Keverne and St Just, in which the furious saint hurled the quarter-ton stones as weapons. The site is a scheduled monument overlooking Goonhilly Downs.
