Beacon Castle

Beacon Castle is an Iron Age hillslope enclosure near Parracombe in Devon, England, situated at approximately 290 metres above sea level overlooking the Heddon Valley. The site is visible as a series of well-defined earthworks north of the summit of South Down and is interpreted as most likely an Iron Age pastoral settlement rather than a primarily defensive structure, sited for prominence and visibility toward the north. On the opposite slope across the River Heddon valley, some 900 metres to the west, stands the related hillfort of Voley Castle, clearly visible from Beacon Castle.
