Eston Nab

Eston Nab is a rocky promontory at 242 metres elevation in Redcar and Cleveland, England, overlooking the Tees Valley. The site shows evidence of human activity from the Mesolithic period (c. 8500 BC) through flint finds, with Neolithic flintwork also recovered. Excavations in 1927-29, 1966-68, and 1985-87 revealed Bronze Age barrows with cremation urns and burnt bone, followed by two successive Late Bronze Age palisaded enclosures. The univallate hillfort proper, measuring 250 x 120 metres, features a ditch and rampart with boulder wall constructed in the early Iron Age. A 2017 Heritage Lottery excavation discovered what researchers believe is an ancient henge at the site.
