Mamucium

Mamucium (AD 79) was a Roman fort in what is now Manchester, England. Founded around AD 79 during Roman Britain, it housed a cohort of auxiliary troops near two major Roman roads[1]. A civilian settlement (vicus) grew outside the fort walls, hosting soldiers' families, traders and craft industries[1]. The site, located in Castlefield, is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument preserving Roman archaeology beneath modern Manchester[1].
