Vinovia (also Vinovium) was a Roman fort and settlement on the banks of the River Wear in County Durham, England, located about 1.6 km (1 mi) north of modern Bishop Auckland[1]. The settlement grew around the fort and was occupied until the late Middle Ages[1]. The ruins are now known as the Binchester Roman Fort, with the nearby modern village of Binchester situated about 3 km to the east[1].
