Compton Dundon

Dundon Hill Hillfort is a univallate Iron Age hillfort in Compton Dundon, Somerset, England, designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument [1] [2]. Situated overlooking the Somerset Levels, the outer earthworks enclose approximately 4.8 hectares [3]. A 1997 water pipeline excavation through the rampart revealed a multi-phase defensive sequence: an initial timber-laced stone rampart that was subsequently burned, overlaid by a later clay rampart, with possible pre-rampart cobbles suggesting earlier occupation [2]. Earlier surface finds from 1916 included flint tools and Bronze Age pottery [1] [2].
