Beckhampton Avenue

The Beckhampton Avenue was a curving Neolithic avenue of paired standing stones running southwest from the Avebury henge toward Beckhampton in Wiltshire, dating to the late Neolithic or early Bronze Age. Only one stone, known as Adam, remains standing; the rest were broken up by post-medieval landowners. Excavations by the University of Southampton in 2000 uncovered 120 m of parallel stone holes at 15 m intervals, confirming the avenue's double-row layout matching that of Kennet Avenue. The site is part of the Stonehenge, Avebury and Associated Sites UNESCO World Heritage property.
