Engomi Ancient City Ruins

Enkomi (also known as Engomi) was a major Late Bronze Age city near Famagusta, Cyprus, occupied from approximately 1650 to 1050 BC. It functioned as a primary copper export hub with strong trade links to Ugarit and Egypt, and may have been the capital of the kingdom of Alasiya mentioned in the Amarna letters. The site features Cyclopean defensive walls, perpendicular street plans, and yielded the famous Ingot God and Horned God bronze statuettes. Excavations from 1896 to 1974 uncovered rich tombs with gold, silver, and ivory artifacts along with the highest concentration of Cypro-Minoan inscriptions on Cyprus. The city was abandoned around 1050 BC as Salamis rose to prominence.
