Archaeological Site of the Tombs of the Kings

Large Hellenistic-Roman necropolis 2 km north of Paphos harbour, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 1980. Despite the name, the underground rock-cut tombs housed Ptolemaic aristocrats and officials, not royalty. Tomb 3 features a peristyle atrium with Doric columns reflecting Egyptian architectural influence. The site spans the 4th century BC to the 3rd century AD, with some tombs later reused by early Christians as refuges.
