Romuald's Cave

Romuald's Cave (Croatian: Romualdova pećina) is a cave in western Istria County, Croatia, containing the oldest known cave paintings in southeast Europe, dating to around 35,000 years ago [1]. The site also preserves traces of both animal and human Upper Paleolithic habitation [1]. Although excavations began in the late 19th century, the paintings were only discovered in 2010 by Professor Darko Komšo, with findings published in Antiquity in 2019 [1].
