Thracian Tomb, Shushmanets

The Thracian tomb at Shushmanets is a 4th-century BC temple-tomb in the Valley of the Thracian Rulers near Shipka, Bulgaria, discovered on August 28, 1996. The structure consists of a long entry corridor, a facade of perfectly processed granite blocks in 10 rows, and a semi-cylindrical antechamber with an elegant Ionic-styled column. A circular main chamber is supported by a polished Doric column. It is the only known Thracian temple with columns in both the porch and the main chamber. Four horses and two dogs were sacrificed in the antechamber during the funeral ceremony.
