Nicopolis ad Nestum

Nicopolis ad Nestum (or Nicopolis ad Mestum) was a fortified Roman town in the province of Thracia, situated near the modern village of Garmen on the left bank of the Mesta river in present-day Bulgaria [1]. While "ad Nestum" became the more commonly used name, "ad Mestum" was the correct Roman-era form [1]. The town was one of two fortified settlements established to commemorate Emperor Trajan's victory over the Dacians in 105 AD [2].
