Isla del Sol

Isla del Sol (Island of the Sun) is a 14.3 sq km island in the Bolivian sector of Lake Titicaca with over 80 ruins, most dating to the 15th-century Inca period, though habitation extends back to the third millennium BC. In Inca mythology, the island was the birthplace of Manco Capac and Mama Ocllo, sent to earth by the sun god. Major structures include the Pilco Kayma palace, a two-story 50-by-43-foot building with galleries cut from living stone, and the sacred Titi Qala rock.
