Gate of the Sun

The Gate of the Sun is a monumental monolithic gateway carved from a single stone slab by the Tiwanaku culture at their archaeological site near Lake Titicaca in present-day Bolivia [1]. Standing approximately 3 metres tall and 4 metres wide, with an estimated weight of 10 tons, this megalithic structure dates to between 1-500 AD [2]. The gateway features intricate carvings on its lintel, including a central figure thought to represent a deity, surrounded by 48 square panels depicting various symbolic motifs [1].
