Inka Murata

An archaeological site on the Altiplano of Bolivia, located in the Oruro Department, Litoral Province, Escara Municipality, in the community of Escara. The site features adjacent chullpas, ancient funerary towers originally built by Aymara peoples for nobles and later adopted by the Inca. Chullpas in the southern Bolivian altiplano are typically built of adobe (mud brick) and can reach up to 12 metres in height. Inka Murata and its burial towers were declared a National Historical Monument by Law 3833 on January 23, 2008.
