A pre-Harappan and Harappan archaeological site in Sindh, Pakistan, located south of Mohenjo-daro, serving as the type site for the Amri culture of the 4th millennium BC. First excavated by N.G. Majumdar in 1929, who discovered a pre-Harappan settlement underlying a Harappan one. Jean-Marie Casal's excavations (1959-1962) defined the cultural sequence: Period I (c. 3600-3300 BC) was a fortified pre-Harappan town, Period II saw increasing Indus Valley influence, and Period III (c. 2450-1900 BC) was fully Harappan. Its distinctive pottery features geometric motifs with checkerboard and sigma patterns.
