Dodona was the oldest Hellenic oracle, possibly dating to the 2nd millennium BCE according to Herodotus [1]. The earliest accounts in Homer describe Dodona as an oracle of Zeus [1]. Located in the remote mountains of Epirus in northwestern Greece, the sanctuary attracted pilgrims seeking divine guidance for nearly two millennia [1]. During its peak in classical antiquity, Dodona was considered second only to the Oracle of Delphi in prestige and influence [1]. The temple complex featured a sacred oak, altars, and theaters where dedications and games were held [1]. The oracle remained active until the rise of Christianity during the Late Roman era [1].
