Wraxall is a village in North Somerset with significant archaeological heritage spanning multiple periods. Earthworks of an oval Iron Age defended settlement, surrounded by a bank and ditch, lie south of Manor Farm. Excavations at Tower House Farm (1950-53) uncovered a Roman villa, and additional Roman features are scattered throughout the valley. The village also preserves earthworks from a deserted medieval settlement east of Wraxall House, with evidence of houses, enclosures, and possibly a watermill. The name Wraxall is thought to derive from 'a nook of land frequented by buzzards'.
