Cadbury Hill

Iron Age hillfort atop Cadbury Hill near Congresbury in North Somerset, known archaeologically as Cadbury-Congresbury to distinguish it from the Somerset Cadbury Castle. The fort enclosed roughly 8.5 acres with ramparts, walls, and ditches, and was abandoned during the Roman occupation. Uniquely, it was substantially reoccupied in the post-Roman 'Dark Age' (c. 400-700 AD), when Mediterranean amphorae imports and evidence of a turf-and-timber watchtower, timber hall, and continued Byzantine trade were discovered, suggesting a settlement of considerable importance.
