Y Garn Goch

Y Garn Goch is one of the largest hillforts in Wales, enclosing 16.6 hectares near the village of Bethlehem in the Brecon Beacons. The site comprises two Iron Age hillforts, Y Gaer Fawr and Y Gaer Fach, ringed by approximately 1,700 metres of stone ramparts with at least eight entrances and two prehistoric main gates featuring slab-lined passages. A 55-metre Neolithic stone long cairn crowns the highest summit, suggesting the site may incorporate earlier monuments. Recent research proposes it served ceremonial rather than purely military purposes, hosting equinox and solstice events.
