Cefn Bryn

Cefn Bryn is an 8 km long Old Red Sandstone ridge on the Gower Peninsula, south Wales, rising to 188 m and known as the "backbone of Gower". It is one of the richest archaeological landscapes in South Wales, with evidence of human activity from at least the 4th-3rd millennium BC. The most prominent feature is Maen Ceti (Arthur's Stone), a Neolithic burial chamber dating to c. 2500 BC with a massive 25-ton capstone measuring 12 feet across supported by upright stones. Over sixty Bronze Age cairns have been discovered beneath bracken on the ridge, and a temporary settlement from the early 3rd millennium BC has been excavated near Arthur's Stone.
