Castell Henllys

Castell Henllys ("castle of the old court") is an Iron Age inland promontory fort near Nevern in north Pembrokeshire, Wales, and one of the most intensively studied hillforts in Britain. Excavated for over 20 years by York University, it has roundhouses dating to 500-100 BC that were home to the Demetae tribe, housing a community of up to 100 people. Three roundhouses and a granary have been reconstructed on their original foundations -- the only site in Britain where this has been done. A rare cheveaux-de-frise ("prehistoric barbed wire") was found beneath the outer banks, along with a large slingshot hoard behind the rampart.
