Priene was an ancient Greek city of Ionia located at the base of the Mycale escarpment, about 6 km north of the Maeander River [1]. The city was built on the sea coast overlooking the Latmian Gulf of the Aegean, developed on steep slopes and terraces extending from sea level to 380 meters above sea level [1]. Due to siltation from the Maeander River over centuries, the city is now an inland site near modern Güllübahçe Turun in Söke district, Aydın Province [1].
