Euromos Ruins

An ancient Carian city near Milas in southwestern Turkey, known from the 5th century BC as Cyramos before being renamed Euromos ('Beautiful and Strong') under King Mausolus. The site is renowned for the Temple of Zeus Lepsynos, built during Emperor Hadrian's reign (117-138 AD) with a stylobate of 14.4 by 26.8 meters. Sixteen of its original 32 Corinthian columns remain standing, making it one of the best-preserved temples in Anatolia. The temple was never completed due to economic crisis, and some columns remain unfluted. In 2021, two 2,500-year-old archaic kouros statues were discovered at the site.
